Understanding classes and scheduling

3 min read·Updated July 2026

Everything you run, from a packed spin class to a private nutrition consult, lives on one calendar. This guide explains the pieces: what a class is, how schedules put it on the calendar and what happens to a seat between booking and check-in.

There’s no separate mode for appointments. A 1:1 session is simply a class with one seat, so everything here applies to both.

One calendar, two shapes

A group class has a capacity: 14 bikes, 8 mats, however many spots you sell. An appointment is the same thing with a capacity of one. You can run both side by side, and any service you offer can take either shape. For turning your working hours into bookable 1:1 slots, see Offer appointment time slots.

Schedules, not spreadsheets

You don’t create each week by hand. A schedule says “Morning HIIT, Monday Wednesday Friday at 7:00, 14 seats” and Zenly puts every future date on the calendar for you. Need to move or cancel one day? Change just that occurrence and the rest of the series stays put.

Times are always your location’s local times, and daylight saving shifts are handled for you.

Booking and capacity

A seat is committed the moment it’s booked: the client’s membership or session pack covers it right then, which is why nobody can hold seats they aren’t entitled to use. When a class is full, clients join the waitlist and move up automatically as spots open; see How waitlists work.

After the class

Once a class has passed, each booking settles as attended or a no-show. You choose how hands-on that is: let Zenly assume people came, or track attendance at the door and from the client’s phone. The details live in Attendance and check-in.

Good to know
Attendance never charges anyone. The credit was used at booking, so marking presence or a no-show is purely a record.
